Katy’s Piano Bar Origin Story
At Purdue University, I wandered into the piano bar at The Neon Cactus. It inspired me to do something fun for my 21st birthday and go to Howl at the Moon in Chicago. While I had always wanted some type of career in the creative arts, I did not know that this was a job that existed.
Being serenaded on my 21st birthday.
Took my grandma to the piano bar and by the end of the night, the whole crowd was chanting “Grandma Bettie!”
I moved to Chicago shortly after and took a slight career detour working for Second City as a music director on a cruise ship and later The Second City Touring Company (Mighty Mighty BlueCo! IYKYK!)

For more than a decade I’ve worked as a dueling/solo piano bar entertainer. It’s taken me to amazing places throughout the US, to sea to perform on cruise ships, to Germany as well as The Marshall Islands, Alaska, and South Korea to perform with our troops, and I’ve met so many fantastic people along the way!
I absolutely love my job, and my favorite part is making it special for everyone who comes to my show just like the piano players did for me all those years ago!
